The Chord Company was founded in 1985 by Sally Kennedy in her home, where she built her first cables. Since then, the company has been designing, producing and selling award-winning cables for home cinema, Hi-Fi, gaming, in-car audio, HDTV, pro-audio and 3DTV. Over the years, The Chord Company has continued to produce high-quality cables that allow their customers to get the best of any level equipment as well as the maximum enjoyment from their TVs, music, games, and films.
Sally Kennedy first produced and sold the Chord Chrysalis interconnect range, which had a remarkable and well-balanced standard of performance. From then on, the outstanding range of interconnect cables produced by this company has emerged and grown with an ever-evolving product line up. All Chord cables are designed in the company’s main factory and, with just a few exceptions, all of their products are assembled and tested within the company’s facility in Wiltshire.
To ensure there is consistency in all of their products, The Chord Company ensures that all employees spend time in the production department. It is through this rigorous testing and training of employees that this company maintains excellent quality in its products.

Chord Rumour was Chord's second attempt at producing a speaker cable. Previous versions of Rumour speaker cables used PTFE insulation (often referred to as Teflon™) however the new Rumour X uses a material known as XLPE (Cross-linked Polyethylene).

Shawline X speaker cable is based around Chord Rumour (now known as Rumour X) – a favourite for 20+ years. The conductors are silver-plated, insulated with XLPE and arranged in a twisted pair configuration. To produce Chord Shawline X, Chord have taken the existing conductor layout, added a specially chosen PVC internal jacket to reduce mechanical noise, before applying the same high density, dual-layer foil and braid shield that we use on Chord Epic.

Epic is a completely new interconnect, using Tuned ARAY conductor technology. The key differences that set it apart from the Shawline interconnect are heavier silver-plated conductors and performance critical spacing of the high density braid and foil shield.
