Harman / Kardon

Established in Stamford, Connecticut in the early 1950s by business partners Sidney Harman and Bernard Kardon, Harman/Kardon is now a division of Harman International. The company made its name by manufacturing high-end audio equipment. Their current offerings include sound sticks, headphones, audio-video receivers, amplifiers, car audio, multi-room and smart speakers, amongst others.

Harman/Kardon’s highly-regarded range of Citation speakers, introduced all the way back in 1959, were among the first products to benefit from the company’s philosophy of producing high-fidelity sound by utilising internal amplifiers that could provide the widest possible audio bandwidth. The range was further improved in 1970 when a Finnish engineer Dr. Matti Otala, discovered the distortion effects of transient intermodulation (TIM) and worked to soften its influence. He paid particular attention to achieving optimum measurements of output signals which in turn lead to the best possible perceived sound.

Today, the range boasts a wide variety of elegant solutions for modern technological living. From the simple all-in-one Citation One MK2 to the Citation bar providing full home theatre surround sound experience, there is something to suit everyone. For an even more realistic home theatre experience, consumers can create their own perfect wireless 5.1 home theatre setup using Citation Towers, surround and sub speakers.

The company’s designs are highly praised by many for their delicate blend of contemporary influences and classic minimalism with Scandinavian undertones. This approach achieves speaker design that can seamlessly blend into a variety of interiors and setups.
