IsoAcoustics is a Canadian company based in Markham, Ontario. It was founded in 2012 by Dave Morrison, whose approach to vibration control grew out of almost two decades working on radio and television studio design at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. The company’s public materials emphasise these Canadian engineering roots rather than identifying a single manufacturing country for every product in the range.

IsoAcoustics specialises in controlling unwanted vibration between loudspeakers, audio components and the surfaces supporting them. Its best-known products include GAIA isolation feet for floorstanding speakers, Aperta stands for smaller speakers and monitors, and OREA isolators for electronics and turntables.

The isolators use a directional design that manages movement along the same axis as the forces generated by a loudspeaker. Their shape, material properties and internal construction are designed to reduce vibration travelling into the supporting surface and energy reflecting back into the equipment. The aim is better mechanical isolation without allowing uncontrolled movement in every direction.

Weight is one of the most important factors. IsoAcoustics tunes different models for specific load ranges, and performance can decline if an isolator is loaded close to or beyond its recommended limit. For products used in sets, divide the total equipment weight by the number of isolators supporting it and then check the resulting load against the appropriate model.

Proper isolation is intended to reduce unwanted structural vibration rather than remove the loudspeaker’s intended bass output. Testing of GAIA isolators at the National Research Council of Canada showed consistent measured frequency response from 20Hz to 20kHz compared with spikes, while also showing lower cabinet-vibration velocity in the test setup.

GAIA isolators can be used on carpet with the appropriate GAIA Carpet Discs. The discs provide a solid interface through the carpet so the isolator can work against the firm flooring underneath. Thread compatibility with the speaker should also be checked before ordering, although GAIA models include several commonly used thread adaptors.
