Linn was founded in 1973 by Ivor Tiefenbrun. At that time, Ivor was dissatisfied with the performance of the Hi-Fi system he had just purchased after getting married. He used the resources at his father’s engineering company to fix what he thought was wrong with the design of the system and it was then that the Sondek LP12 turntable was born. This turntable is regarded as the most popular high-end turntable of all time. Linn has received worldwide acclaim for its quality products including the Royal Warrant award in 2002 and the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation in 2012.
With over 40 years’ experience of engineering and designing systems, the privately owned Scottish company, Linn, has been successful in delivering exceptional Hi-Fi products including cartridges and tonearms, loudspeakers and amplifiers. Just recently, Linn took the lead in the development of streaming products and was among the first companies to see the potential of streaming audio. In 2007, the company launched Klimax DS. This was the first network music player product that supported the playback of studio master quality recordings in 24-bit resolution and 192 kHz frequency.
Linn Products not only sound and look good but they are equally as lovely on the inside with every single system being built by hand and assembled by one person in their Glasgow production facility. The systems are built with pride and precision and are engineered to guarantee quality and longevity. The system has also been named after its inventor. After manufacturing its products, Linn rigorously tests them in its factory to make sure that the products deliver outstanding performance and are of extraordinary tolerance.
