A few things we get asked most often. If your question isn't here, our team is happy to talk it through.

Mola Mola is a Dutch high-end audio company based in Groningen, the Netherlands. Its products are designed and manufactured in the Netherlands, with the company keeping a strong focus on in-house engineering and precision production rather than outsourcing complete designs.

Mola Mola is best known for extremely low-noise electronics and a design philosophy centred on removing as much added colouration as possible from the signal. The current Premium Sound range covers DAC, preamplification, integrated and power amplification, plus a dedicated phono stage, all following the same measurement-led approach.

Trajectum is Mola Mola’s proprietary Class D amplifier platform, developed from ideas that followed Bruno Putzeys’ earlier Ncore work. It is used in products such as the Perca, Kula and Ossetra, combining very low distortion with high efficiency, wide bandwidth and strong loudspeaker control.

Perca is a compact stereo power amplifier delivering 150 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 300 watts into 4 ohms. Ossetra is a mono design with 350 watts into 8 ohms, 700 watts into 4 ohms and 900 watts into 2 ohms, making it the more ambitious option for demanding loudspeakers and higher-output systems.

Kula is designed as a modular integrated amplifier rather than a simple amplifier with fixed features. It combines preamplification and 150-watt-per-channel power amplification, while optional DAC and phono modules can add the same core digital and vinyl technology found elsewhere in the Mola Mola range. This allows a very compact system without giving up upgrade flexibility.

Tambaqui uses Mola Mola’s own discrete PWM conversion architecture rather than relying on a conventional off-the-shelf DAC implementation. It also includes digital volume control, headphone outputs, Roon support and Bluetooth, so it can work either as a standalone DAC or as the control centre of a minimalist digital system.

Makua starts as a very flexible analogue preamplifier, but its modular design allows optional DAC and phono boards to be added. Inputs and routing can be configured through software, so the same chassis can serve a simple analogue system or a much more complex setup with digital and vinyl sources.

Lupe supports both MM and MC cartridges using separate input stages optimised for each type. Gain, resistance and capacitance can be adjusted over a wide range, and the unit also provides several inputs, balanced and single-ended outputs and selectable equalisation settings, making it suitable for systems using more than one cartridge or turntable setup.

Premium Sound carries the full current Mola Mola electronics range, and most stocked brands can be demonstrated at the Kensington showroom. An audition is especially useful when comparing the compact Perca with Ossetra monoblocks, or deciding whether a modular Kula or Makua-based system makes more sense for your setup. Availability of the exact configuration is worth checking before visiting.

More info about Mola Mola.

The brand is closely associated with Bruno Putzeys, one of the best-known designers in modern Class D amplification. That technical background is a major part of Mola Mola’s identity, not least because of the connection with Hypex technology. Mola Mola amplifiers use advanced Hypex Ncore Class D modules, a design approach known for very low distortion, high efficiency and excellent control over loudspeakers. Rather than chasing a particular house sound, the company focuses on low noise, wide bandwidth and a clean signal path, giving its products a sense of speed and transparency without sounding forced.

Mola Mola is especially well known for its digital engineering, with DAC technology that has become a major part of the brand’s reputation. The same attention to conversion, clocking and signal handling can be found across its preamplifiers and integrated amplifiers, making the range appealing to both digital-first systems and more flexible mixed-source setups.

Vinyl users are also well served. Mola Mola’s phono stage designs offer detailed cartridge adjustment and quiet operation, giving moving magnet and moving coil cartridges the clean, accurate platform they need to perform properly.

For anyone looking at Mola Mola amplifiers, DACs or phono stages, the attraction is not just the specification. These are compact, beautifully made hi-fi components for systems where clarity, timing and tonal honesty matter. Mola Mola suits listeners who want high-end audio equipment that feels modern, understated and deeply engineered, without adding unnecessary character of its own.
