Your Guide to the current Hegel Integrated Amps Lineup

Over more than three decades, Hegel has built a reputation for combining Scandinavian simplicity, musical integrity, and technical sophistication. Its integrated amplifiers remain among the most compelling choices in hi-fi, uniting uncompromised power, control, and streaming/DAC features in elegant enclosures. As the product line evolves, here’s an up-to-date look at Hegel’s current integrated amplifiers — from entry-level to reference — and how to choose the right one.

HegelHegel H95

The H95 continues to serve as Hegel’s accessible entry point. Its class AB output provides 60 W per channel into 8 Ω , with a minimum load down to 2 Ω, meaning it can handle moderately difficult speaker loads. Hegel rates the damping factor as >2000 for its main output stage — a key factor in its firm, controlled bass and speaker control.

H95

On the digital side, the H95 offers six digital inputs (Ethernet network/streaming, USB, coaxial, and three optical) plus two analog RCA inputs.   Its network streaming supports AirPlay, Spotify Connect (non-lossless), and UPnP, and the USB input handles PCM up to 24/96 kHz (while the S/PDIF and network paths go to 24/192 kHz)  . A headphone jack and a variable line-out are also included.

H95-2

In reviews, the H95 is often praised for delivering clean, transparent sound with a strong sense of control, especially given its modest output rating.   Its compact footprint (43 × 35 × 10 cm, ~10.6 kg) makes it easy to integrate into most racks or systems.

When to choose the H95: If your speakers aren’t overly power-hungry, or you’re building a streamlined two-box system with digital sources, the H95 offers excellent value and musical performance without overextending your budget.

Hegel H150 (Prodigy)

The H150 is the newest all-in-one model in Hegel’s current line, positioned between the 95 and the higher-tier units. Hegel markets it as a “Prodigy” streaming amplifier that brings many features from flagship models into a more accessible package.

H150

The H150 delivers 75 W per channel into 8 Ω through a refined class AB output stage with Hegel’s SoundEngine2 technology. It maintains a high damping factor of over 2000 and handles speaker loads down to 2 Ω with ease. Inside, a toroidal transformer and high-speed capacitors provide a steady flow of current to the amplifier section, ensuring controlled, dynamic, and detailed sound.

In terms of connectivity, the H150 adds some features not found in preceding models: a phono MM input, USB-A input (for USB drives), and the same robust digital front-end platform found in Hegel’s higher models (shared streaming firmware, app control)  . Its digital I/O includes two optical, one coaxial, a USB-B, Ethernet, and a coaxial digital out (for external DAC). The amplifier also provides balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA analog inputs, plus a headphone jack and a subwoofer line-out.

Firmware updates are automatic, and the H150 supports a broad set of streaming services: AirPlay, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect, Google Cast, UPnP, and more.   Roon Ready status is pending.

Why the H150 matters: It bridges the gap between entry-level and high-end models, offering capabilities that previously required stepping up in cost. It’s particularly appealing to users wanting to connect vinyl, digital libraries, and streaming sources in one box without immediate need for external DACs or phono stages.

Hegel H190v

Replacing the former H190, the H190v carries forward the spirit of its predecessor with additions and refinements. In many ways, it is a more matured and flexible version of the classic mid-tier Hegel integrated.

H190vFront

The power output remains 150 W per channel into 8 Ω, and it retains a damping factor of >4000 (a hallmark of the original H190)  . Internally, Hegel refined the preamp / DAC power supplies to reduce noise and enhance headroom, especially under high dynamic loads.

New to H190v is a high-performance MM phono stage (derived from Hegel’s V10 phono preamp design) built into the unit, giving vinyl playback without needing an external phono preamp  . The streaming and DAC sections are updated, with AirPlay, Spotify Connect, Roon support, and DLNA/UPnP integration.   Inputs may be user-configured for fixed/home theatre bypass, maximum volume limits can be set, and IP control (for Control4, Crestron, Savant) is also available .

H190v-2

In reviews, the H190v is praised for a refined tonal balance, smoothness, and dynamic ease — an amplifier that feels more confident and mature than earlier models.   Among audiophiles, the H190v is often seen as a “sweet-spot” model: not overkill, but richly capable.

Hegel H400

The H400 replaces the H390 as Hegel’s new “high-value” high-power integrated, combining streaming, DAC, and amplifier power in one unit. It delivers 250 W per channel into 8 Ω and is stable down to 2 Ω, maintaining the lineage of driving demanding speakers with confidence.  Its architecture remains class AB with SoundEngine2, including real-time distortion correction.

H400

Importantly, Hegel redesigned the voltage amplification board and upgraded the digital front end, using the same ESS ES9038Q2M DAC chip found in later H600 units.   The DAC supports PCM 24/192 on network/coax, and USB up to 32/384, including MQA and DSD support (via DoP)

Connectivity includes multiple coaxial, BNC, optical, USB, network, and a digital output. The design incorporates input sensing (auto-switching), fixed input bypassing (for home theatre integration), and remote control via the Hegel app and IR.   Reviewers frequently describe the H400 as having a “clean, resolved, yet forgiving” sonic signature, with a nearly invisible digital backend that lets the music shine through.

If the H190v is “capable for most systems,” the H400 is what you reach for when your speakers or room demand more authority, without stepping all the way to flagship pricing.

Hegel H600

At the top of the current range stands the H600, Hegel’s reference integrated amplifier. Its declared output is 303 W per channel into 8 Ω (and significantly more into 4 Ω), with full stability down to 2 Ω.   The damping factor remains high (>4000) and distortion is extremely low (<0.005% at 50 W/8 Ω)   Its dual-mono layout and the adoption of the volume attenuator from Hegel’s P30A preamp section reflect its ambitious engineering pedigree.

H600

The digital front end is state-of-the-art: the DAC is bit-perfect (no upsampling), with its own dedicated power supply and robust shielding.   Streaming support includes AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, UPnP/DLNA, and Roon Ready; Hegel expects future firmware updates to expand compatibility further.   Full connectivity — XLR, RCA, USB, Ethernet, coax, optical, BNC — is provided, along with variable and fixed analog outputs and full support for home-theater bypass and system integration.

SoundStage’s lab measurements confirm that the H600 slightly exceeds its rated power in practical tests and maintains excellent noise, distortion, and channel matching performance.   In reviews, it’s described as potent yet polished — the kind of amplifier that “does everything and does it beautifully” without drawing attention to itself.

Choose the H600 if you want a single-box solution that rivals separates, and you demand headroom, future-proofing, and seamless integration across digital and analog domains.

Comparison Notes & Tips for Buyers

•Power vs. speakers and room size: If your speakers are moderate sensitivity (e.g. 86–90 dB) and your listening room is under ~25 m², H95 or H120 may suffice. But if you have larger speakers or rooms, stepping up to H190v, H400 or H600 gives you margin, lower distortion at playback levels, and better control in dynamic passages.

H150-2

•Streaming and DAC quality: The H150, H400, and H600 all share a newer, more capable streaming and DAC architecture than older models. If you intend to rely heavily on digital sources or stream services, these newer models offer clear advantages.

•Phono & analog flexibility: Only the H150 and H190v include built-in MM phono stages. If you plan to use a turntable often and prefer not to use an external phono preamp, those models are more convenient.

•Fixed input / home theater integration: All Hegel amplifiers allow at least one input to be fixed (bypassed) for use with home theater processors or multiroom devices without interfering with volume control.

•Upgrade path logic: Many users find a natural path: H95 → H120 → H190v → H400 → H600. That way, investment at an earlier level retains utility even as system demands grow.
