The Studio Headphone Mission

For me, sound has always been more than notes. I grew up building guitars, chasing tone, and recording compositions. But one thing kept bothering me: good music often gets heard through inadequate headphones. That’s why I wanted to create ellipse™ – a studio headphone that treats sound with the same respect we give our instruments today. The journey began with a simple question about why professional monitoring remained compromised. This personal frustration evolved into a multi-year development project.

We’ve made the ellipse™ for musicians. Having worked closely with players, artists and musicians for more than 10 years, we have had many conversations about what makes good sound. Development Journey

How were they developed? The process took years and a good handful of prototypes to perfect. Studio headphones is something we all use on a daily basis here – from recording and mixing our live sessions, to recoding our guitar tracks – to simply listening to how our favorite music is assembled. In other words, we knew what sound and experience we desired. We tested drivers, damping systems, ear cup depth, even headband pressure. We asked musicians, producers, and engineers what they wanted to refine every prototype. Their feedback shaped ellipse™ until everyone agreed: this is it. The iterative process involved blind listening tests with professional mix engineers. Each prototype generation addressed specific sonic weaknesses identified during critical evaluation.

Precision Driver Engineering

ellipse™ uses powerful 50 mm neodymium drivers to deliver a wide 12Hz–40kHz frequency spectrum. The large diaphragm gives you a bigger soundscape, tight low-end authority, and detailed highs. With high headroom and transparent response, you hear every subtlety when you create music. The extended frequency range captures harmonic content beyond typical studio monitor capabilities. This driver technology ensures transient accuracy essential for detailed editing work.

Acoustic Venting System

The small vents on the back of ellipse™ aren’t decoration. They improve both comfort and audio. By regulating air pressure inside the ear cup, they keep the bass natural and controlled, never muddy. The ports also reduce listening fatigue during extended sessions and help stabilise low frequencies, giving you a more accurate and consistent blend. This pressure equalization prevents the sealed-cavity resonances that plague fully closed designs. The porting strategy maintains isolation while eliminating the claustrophobic quality of unvented enclosures.

Extended Session Comfort

ellipse™ is padded with soft velour over-ear cushions that feel natural even in prolonged sessions. They isolate your mix while staying light and comfortable so you can keep working, hour after hour. The velour material breathes better than synthetic leather alternatives during warm conditions. The cushion density balances isolation requirements with all-day wearability.
