The JBL MA510 5.2 Channel 8K AV receiver is an upgrade on the JBL MA310 with more powerful amplifiers and the addition of 8K capability. The unit is also Bluetooth and WiFi capable. It can be used to create a 5.2 system with upto two subwoofers, outputting an impressive 75 watts per channel into 8 Ohms.

This AV receiver acts as a hub for switching between audio and video sources and a display device. This can be a TV or video projector. The HDMI inputs are now capable of handling 8K video and the excellent design includes a large front screen that displays source and playback info.

JBL also released their Stage range of speakers at the same time as this model and the MA AV receivers. The Stage speakers are also designed to offer fantastic sound at very reasonable prices and include bookshelf, floorstanding and multi channel speakers, including centre and surround models. For Dolby Atmos systems there are upward firing speakers that will bounce sound off the ceiling.

Versatile connectivity

Connectivity with the JBL MA510 5.2 Channel 8K AV Receiver includes 4 HDMI inputs and one output. The HDMI system is compatible with HDCP and includes eARC . This allows the TV remote to control the overall volume. The HDMI inputs are also HDR10 and Dolby Vision compliant. 8k video at 60Hz and 4k at 120Hz is supported. Digital audio inputs include one coaxial and one optical input. There are two analogue inputs as well as two subwoofer outputs.

8K compatible HDMI inputs and eARC

Featuring four, dedicated 8K compliant HDMI inputs, this JBL AVR is ready for the next generation of TV and gaming. As part of the HDMI interface support, eARC is now also standard. Immersive surround sound

With 5.2 channels you have the option of adding front and rear left and right speakers, along with a centre and up to two active subwoofers. This not only gives you an enveloping sound via the rear speakers but also crisp and clear dialogue from the dedicated centre speaker. Using twin subwoofers helps give a more even spread of bass around the room and also lets you use smaller subwoofers to create the same (or greater) bass.

There are many surround sound formats, from Dolby Digital to Dolby Atmos and DTS. Surround sound has been used in cinemas since the 1940’s however. It first appeared in the home in the 1980s. Dolby Surround encoded two extra channels, but these channels were low bandwidth and of poor quality. Next in the 1990s came Dolby Digital, which is still in use today, however things have moved on and more complex versions of Dolby Digital are in use now and featured on the MA510.

Dolby Digital has six discreet channels that have a relatively good bandwidth. Later a rival system appeared known as DTS. This can also be decode by the JBL MA510 5.2 Channel 8K AV Receiver. DTS has a higher bitrate and is available on some discs it also carries multiple audio tracks.

High Res Streaming

The JBL MA510 5.2 Channel 8K AV Receiver can play most file formats at up to 192kHZ 24bit resolution. Formats include MP3 WMA, ALAC FLAC and more. Bluetooth is included for streaming from a phone and WIFI is included for network connectivity. The HDMI system carries eight PCM audio channels for surround sound system. These are sent from the Blu-ray player to the AV receiver. Lastly, Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS compressed bitstreams are also carried.
