TX-RZ840 employs DTS:X immersive audio processing optimised to precisely reproduce the complete dynamic range of IMAX theatrical sound mixes from digitally re-mastered IMAX Enhanced content. This replicates lMAX content at superior levels just as the filmmakers intended. IMAX Enhanced films from Hollywood blockbusters to documentaries are scheduled for 4K HDR streaming and Ultra HD Blu-ray release.

THX Certified Select sound

THX Certified Select ensures the same reference level volume of a commercial cinema in rooms with a viewing position of around 3.5m from the screen. To gain this certification, receivers must pass 2000 bench-tests in 75 categories within strict THX sound-quality parameters.

Dolby Atmos and DTS:X

Dolby Atmos and DTS:X align sounds in 3D space enabling them to move around the room and immerse the audience. With 11.2-ch pre-outs and 11-ch handling, you get 3D sound via a 7.2.4 layout (requires external power amp), or use built-in amps for a 5.2.4 or 7.2.2 configuration. Enjoy classics with a height-enabled speaker system featuring Dolby Surround and DTS Neural:X using soundtrack cues and upmixing for spatial playback.

Dolby Atmos Height Virtualiser

With any Dolby format, immersive Atmos Height Virtualiser allows an enhanced listening experience creating a virtual surround and height effect from typical speaker layouts without requiring additional speakers.

Dynamic Audio Amplification

DAA balances power delivery for precise control and remarkable dynamics. Low-Noise Power Transformer and custom 15,000 μF high-current even capacitors bring instant power while non-phase-shift amps encompass a wide frequency response.

To cool them, an extruded aluminum heat-sink with black anodized paint regulates resonance frequencies while more efficiently cutting thermal distortion. Hand-selected audio parts are incorporated behind the front panel. DAA has a visceral musicality that brings emotion to every nuance.

Reduce Noise, Boost Power

Extra refinements manage noise, augment power and better S/N performance. A fresh HDMI board has shorter signal-paths and large grounds for AV signal purity. SoC is isolated to reduce interference noise. The power-supply line is reinforced for even power delivery contributing to punchier bass and enhanced localization on a broader soundstage.

Works with Sonos

TX-RZ840 is compatible with new or existing Sonos Home Sound Systems simply by pairing with a Sonos Connect (not included). The AVR matches the Sonos ecosystem, waking, changing inputs and volume level on demand from the Sonos app.

Chromecast Built-in

Effortlessly stream audio from a smart device or PC with the ability to control playback via Chromecast-compatible apps for iPhone, iPad, Android phone or tablet, Mac or Windows or Chromebook. If you have a smart speaker with Google Assistant, you can cue, play, and manage music playback by voice.

Whole Home Audio System

Manage audio playback in up to three rooms simultaneously via the Onkyo Controller app. TX-RZ840 has two additional DACs to disperse unique or synced D/A audio sources via Zone 2 and Zone 3 speaker outputs, including HDMI/SPDIF/NET/Bluetooth. Nine amps means you can enjoy a 5.2.2-ch Main layout with powered Zone 2 audio or a 5.2-ch surround system with powered audio distribution to Zone 2 and 3.

Quad-core SoC

A dynamic SoC processes multiple tasks at one time. It develops network functions and supports newest high-speed 802.11ac (2×2 MIMO) spec while compatible with 802.11 b/g/n dual-band routers.

Clarify voice dialog in-program

Vocal Enhancer resolves inaudible TV/Movie dialog usinf DSP technology to identify voice frequencies that you can conveniently adjust using remote-control keys or controls on the front panel.

Versatile line-out

Link your supported hi-fi system via analog RCA input to the AVR’s Zone 2/Zone B line-out in order to play the same or different analog/digital sources (including SPDIF and HDMI) in either or both rooms. Zone B mode is ideal for a supported wireless transmitter. Enjoy any source via wireless headphones for no-disruption late-night TV entertainment.

AccuEQ Advance with AccuReflex

AccuEQ Advance room acoustic calibration uses nine-point mic to calibrate and equalise speakers and subwoofers and eliminate standing waves that arise when sound resonates and reflects off the walls, compromising its exact expression. During this, background noise is ignored to ensure accurate EQ. AccuReflex enhances 3D sound over height speakers by correcting phase-shift for a cohesive sound-field.

Connections for custom installation

TX-RZ840 has a 12V trigger output and an IR input for remote-range extension. It supports IP control, RS-232C and OSD for custom installers. An optional rack-mount kit (IRK-180-4C) is available.

Supports eARC audio transmission

Main HDMI output facilitates eARC supporting HD audio transfer from an eARC-compatible TV to AV receiver via HDMI. It supports 3D audio formats including Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio lossless formats. High bit-rate and object-based sound from videos streamed via Smart TV or smartphone app and a linked network dongle can be proessed and amplified at native quality.
