Elac Carina 243 Speaker is the new entry-level 5″ bookshelf from the value-centered Carina speaker line designed by Andrew Jones and with the addition of a JET folded Carina ribbon tweeter.

Designer Andrew Jones has already produced many high end audio designs but under the ELAC brand they have soared to even greater heights.

Ribbon Tweeters

Unlike the 3-way concentric-driver design in the Uni-Fi line, the 2-way Carina BS-243 standmount speaker employs a JET tweeter, new curvature for the woofer driver and features a down-firing port delivering better synergy between the two.

Performance

This grants ultra-fast response, wide dynamic range, lowest distortion and a broader frequency range than standard dome tweeters. The tweeter is paired with a 13.5cm aluminium mid/bass driver for a 2-way design. By using aluminum, resonances that degrade the linearity of typical paper cones can be placed past the driver’s operating frequency range.

Build Design

An extended magnet with vented pole piece increases power handling for accurate reproduction of clean and powerful bass frequencies. The nominal impedance is rated at 6 Ohms and the reflex ports fire downwards to minimise ventilation noise. The curved cabinet is available in satin white and satin black finishes.
