02 · IN DETAIL

The long read.

The F700 is the entry point into Fyne Audio’s prestigious F700 series, designed to distil the acoustic engineering of their flagship F1 models into a more traditional, luxuriously finished cabinet. Manufactured in the UK, it combines a highly advanced point-source driver with complex cabinet geometry and Fyne’s signature downward-firing BassTrax diffuser. It is a no-compromise standmount monitor built to deliver reference-level stereo imaging and startling scale from a modest footprint.

Brief product overview A premium, UK-built two-way standmount loudspeaker built around a 150mm (6-inch) IsoFlare point-source driver. This array features a multi-fibre mid/bass cone with a 25mm magnesium dome compression tweeter and a neodymium magnet system positioned at its exact acoustic centre. Low frequencies vent downward through a twin-cavity tuned enclosure into a heavy machined aluminium plinth housing the BassTrax Tractrix diffuser, extending response down to 40Hz. The crossover features deeply cryogenically treated components to relieve material stress. Sensitivity is 89dB with an 8-ohm nominal impedance, handling up to 75 watts continuous power. The cabinet is shaped with radiused edges to minimize standing waves and finished in high-gloss piano lacquer, measuring 348 x 224 x 337mm and weighing 9kg per speaker.

How it sounds The F700 is phenomenally transparent, fast, and seamlessly integrated. Because the entire frequency range emanates from a single point, the stereo imaging is holographically precise; instruments are placed with laser focus, creating a deep, stable soundstage that extends well beyond the physical cabinets. The magnesium compression tweeter delivers crystalline, airy high frequencies without sounding clinical, while the complex twin-cavity BassTrax port system generates tight, articulate low frequencies that roll out smoothly into the room rather than aggressively pushing forward. It is a highly resolving, studio-grade monitor that sounds cohesive, effortless, and exceptionally detailed.

What we’d partner it with A highly resolving speaker of this pedigree requires amplification that offers both iron-fisted control and harmonic richness. The Fezz Audio Titania is a masterful primary pairing: a push-pull Class AB1 vacuum tube amplifier utilizing four KT88 power tubes to deliver 45 watts per channel. The Titania provides immense drive and grip on the Fyne’s 150mm drivers, while the KT88 tubes impart a natural, liquid warmth to the midrange that balances the hyper-detailed IsoFlare array beautifully. Good alternatives from brands we carry include high-quality solid-state or hybrid amplifiers from Rega, McIntosh, or Pass Labs.

For digital playback, the Eversolo DMP-A6 serves as an exceptional streaming front end. Its dual ESS DAC architecture and ultra-low noise power supply provide a pristine, high-resolution analog signal into the Titania, all controlled through a flawless touchscreen interface.

For analogue playback, the Clearaudio Compass turntable provides a serious mechanical foundation. Its mass-loaded chassis and precision acrylic platter extract remarkable transient detail from the groove. We would route this through the Fezz Audio Gaia Mini moving-magnet phono stage, ensuring the delicate analog signal is perfectly equalized before hitting the Titania’s line inputs.

Who shouldn’t buy it If you have a massive, open-plan living space, the 150mm driver in the F700 will eventually hit its physical limits when pushed to concert volumes; you should look to the larger F701 standmount or the F702 floorstander. Furthermore, this speaker is ruthlessly revealing. If you listen to heavily compressed, poorly recorded audio or plan to pair it with entry-level electronics, the F700 will highlight every flaw in the signal chain. Finally, if you prefer a highly laid-back, overly warm “vintage” sound, the Fyne’s fast, studio-accurate precision may feel too analytical for your tastes.

Useful Notes

To realize the full acoustic potential of the F700, they must be placed on heavy, mass-loaded speaker stands; compromising on the stands will muddy the bass response engineered into the aluminium plinth. The downward-firing BassTrax diffuser makes them more forgiving of rear wall boundaries than traditional designs, but you should still allow at least 20 to 30cm of space to let the low frequencies breathe. Fyne provides a dedicated grounding terminal on the rear panel—running a wire from this fifth post to your amplifier’s chassis ground shields the driver from radio frequency interference, dropping the noise floor noticeably. The Fezz Audio Titania is a pure vacuum tube amplifier; it generates substantial heat from its KT88 tubes, requires open space above the chassis for ventilation, and needs roughly 15 to 20 minutes to reach its optimal operating temperature. Ensure the speakers are connected to the amplifier’s 8-ohm taps for the best impedance match.
