The Bowers and Wilkins 703 Speakers are substantial and uncompromising three-way floor standers that have been built by Bowers and Wilkins with the sole purpose of filling even the largest of rooms with full-blooded and realistic sound. Producing powerful basslines with a new lease of life, these speakers will also offer an astounding clarity to vocals and treble effect through the speakers’ dedicated Continuum midrange drivers and Carbon Dome tweeters.
The 700 series is a brand new range from Bowers and Wilkins, and as such, new improvements and technological innovations have been incorporated. Compared with the outgoing B&W CM Series, every transducer in the 700 Series has been radically improved. Using the 800 Series Diamond speaker range as inspiration, Bowers and Wilkins have borrowed some of the technology and adapted them to suit a more generous price point.
With a whole new impressive range of technologies, the 703 speakers employ a new FEA-optimised aluminium chassis in the midrange drivers, providing a stiffer chassis, improved control and a cleaner presentation of midrange than that which can be found in the CM series.
An Aerofoil™ Profile bass cone has been included, providing the same variable thickness design as the bass cones features in the 800 Series Diamond speaker range.
These cones have been developed using advanced computer modelling techniques in order to provide stiffness and rigidity where it is most crucially needed, providing deep and dynamic bass as a result.
With decoupled midrange drivers that have been adapted from a similar system once again found in the 800 Series Diamond speaker range, cabinet colouration has been reduced substantially, and midrange clarity now displays some wonderful new improvements.
Carbon dome tweeters, a brand new technology that has been purpose-built for the 700 series speaker range deliver a dramatic improvement over the aluminium double-dome tweeter that was previously incorporated into earlier speaker ranges. Raising the threshold to 47kHz, these carbon dome tweeters provide pinpoint imaging accuracy and exquisite detail.
The Continuum cone, first introduced in the 800 Series Diamond range, has been incorporated into these speakers, and they represent the biggest step-change in midrange performance since the introduction of Kevlar. The Continuum cone uses woven coated material to provide a highly controlled break-up. Thus resulting in a midrange that is more open and neutral.
