The omnidirectional baffle with no edges at all provides optimal dispersion and also provides the basis for a perfect frequency response. The Concentro grows through the development of the Concentro M to a loudspeaker family.
Despite the much more compact design, the Concentro M impresses with its shape, dimensions and extremely impressive sound.
AS Woofer Chassis
The woofers are manufactured in an ELAC-developed aluminum sandwich construction. In a special bonding process, a 0.3 mm thick aluminum layer is connected with a pulp cone to form a sandwich membrane. In combination with the LLD technology, which ensures a linear drive of the membrane in almost the entire range of effect, results in an excellent precision in the reproduction down to the lowest frequencies, coupled with incredible reserves in the dynamics.
The striking surface structure of the low-mid and mid-range membranes is more than a simple design feature. The crystal-like structure of the aluminum calotte is the further development of the aluminum sandwich technology and enables a reduction of the material thickness to 0.125 mm with constant stiffness of the membrane.
By reducing the moving mass and simultaneously changing bonding of the membrane, in which the voice coil bobbin is connected directly to the aluminum membrane, results in too high frequencies out extended, usable frequency range, increased precision and signal behavior.
JET 5 Tweeter
The ELAC JET Tweeter is one of the most legendary tweeters in the hi-fi industry and has achieved world-wide fame with its exceptionally transparent and effortless sound reproduction. The JET tweeter is the perfecting of the famous “Air Motion Transformer” by speaker pioneer Dr. Ing. Oskar Heil. Its principle: a meander-folded film membrane is driven by a strong magnet system. The result is high efficiency and exceptional dynamics and a more linear frequency response up to 50 kHz.
The heart of the JET tweeter is the folded foil membrane. With a wrinkle width of only 0.84 mm, the production of the JET requires above all precision. In the steps of folding and assembly of the membrane, which require a great deal of sensitivity, manual work is essential. In order to improve the repeatability and to ensure consistent quality even with larger quantities, we have decided to partially automate the production. The absolutely reliable precision of the robot during gluing and handling is thus the ideal complement to irreplaceable manual work.
The sophisticated housing design was chosen to eliminate standing waves that form in the housing itself and that cause playback degradation. By avoiding parallel side surfaces and the sheer mass of material used, the Concentro’s housing always behaves unobtrusively, leaving the reproduction of signals to the speaker chassis only. These in turn are in separate volumes to exclude negative interactions.
Bi-wiring and bi-amping
If you want to make a difference in the wiring, the Concentro offers the convenient possibility of bi-wiring or bi-amping. Thanks to high-quality, shrink-wrapped WBT terminals, both banana plugs and forked lugs can be used. The positioning of the terminal in the floor plate of the Concentro allows wiring to be done elegantly and without unnecessary cable routes.
Secure CNC Stand
The bottom plate of the Concentro is made of one piece of aluminum. By means of a CNC milling machine, all contours are worked out of the material, afterwards the glass plate is blasted and anodised, which then weighs 24 kg. The generously sized spikes ensure perfect stability and ideal coupling with any floor covering.
Drive and Amplification
Despite its impressive dimensions and technical features, the Concentro is uncritical regarding the requirements for power amplifiers. Due to its efficiency, it plays on almost every amplifier, but its dynamic capabilities only become apparent in conjunction with powerful power amplifiers. A power of 100 W per channel should be at least available in order to achieve a reproduction free of compression artifacts.
