The long read.
The F1-10S is the larger of the two full floorstanders in Fyne Audio’s flagship F1 Series, above the F1-8S and below the F1-12S. It is a purist design in one important respect: where most large floorstanders add separate bass drivers, the F1-10S runs a single 250mm IsoFlare point-source driver and nothing else, a 75mm titanium alloy dome compression tweeter with neodymium magnets sitting at the acoustic centre of the bass and midrange cone, so the entire output radiates from one point in space. That is the whole argument for the speaker: complete coherence, with no crossover between separate bass and midrange units to blur the timing. It is a large, heavy speaker at 57.7kg, and it wants a proper room and electronics to match.
Brief product overview
A two-way floorstander built around a single 250mm IsoFlare point-source driver, a 75mm titanium alloy dome compression tweeter mounted concentrically within a multi-fibre bass and midrange cone with FyneFlute surround and a neodymium magnet system. The crossover works at 750Hz, second order on both the low and high pass, and high-frequency and presence controls each allow plus or minus 3dB of adjustment to tune the balance to the room. Sensitivity is a high 94dB at 2.83V/1m into an 8-ohm nominal load, so it is an easy amplifier partner, and recommended power runs from 20 to 280 watts, with 140 watts continuous handling. Frequency response is quoted at 26Hz to 26kHz, minus 6dB typical in room, the bass coming from a down-firing port with a BassTrax Tractrix diffuser. It stands 1191mm tall and weighs 57.7kg each, in a Piano Gloss Walnut finish.
How it sounds
The single-driver point-source design gives the F1-10S an unusually complete coherence: with no separate bass units and one radiating point, the sound arrives as a single event, imaging with precision and holding together across a wide listening area. The 94dB sensitivity makes it dynamic and unforced, quick to respond and comfortable with valve amplification that measures modest on paper. Bass reaches to 26Hz from a single large driver and a tuned port, so it plays deep and full without a separate woofer, and the presence and high-frequency controls let you match it to a bright or a dead room. The honest limit is scale and room: this is a big, heavy speaker that needs space to breathe, and in a small room its bass will dominate. Given a large room and good electronics it is one of the most coherent ways to listen.
What we’d partner it with
The F1-10S’s 94dB sensitivity and easy load make it an ideal home for valves. The McIntosh MC1502 tube power amplifier leads, with the McIntosh CS7500 streaming preamplifier as the matched front end, carrying streaming, a DAC and a configurable phono stage. As alternative amplification, stock permitting, a McIntosh C22 preamplifier with an MC611 monoblock pair steps the power up, or a Fezz Titania integrated offers valve power in one box with a separate streamer and phono stage.
The CS7500 streams on its own; if you would rather stream into a line input, the HiFi Rose RS151 or Aurender N200 are alternatives, stock permitting.
For vinyl, the CS7500’s phono stage takes the Rega Planar 10 with its Apheta 3 moving-coil cartridge. Alternative decks and cartridges, stock permitting, are a Thorens TD 124 DD with an SPU 124, or a Linn Selekt LP12 with a Krystal.
On cabling, use well-made speaker and interconnect cable, with balanced links from the CS7500. AudioQuest and Chord are the cable brands we stock.
Who shouldn’t buy it
If your room is smaller or your budget tighter, the F1-8S gives you F1 Series point-source sound in a floor-standing cabinet for a smaller room at lower cost. If your room is very large and you want the fullest expression of the design, the flagship F1-12S sits above it. And if you would rather have separate bass drivers for outright low-end slam, the single-driver F1-10S makes a deliberate trade of ultimate bass weight for coherence, so someone chasing sheer bass output should consider Fyne’s multi-driver floorstanders instead.
One loudspeaker, two complete systems. Here’s how we’d build around it.
The Streaming System
A streaming preamplifier and 150-watt tube power amplifier driving a 94dB single point-source floorstander.
The Analogue Extension
A Rega Planar 10 with an Apheta 3 moving-coil cartridge into the preamplifier’s configurable phono stage.
Useful Notes
The F1-10S is a large floorstander and ships with its spikes or feet to be fitted; plan a permanent position with room to breathe, clear of side and rear walls, and toe it in towards the listening seat to lock in the point-source image. The down-firing BassTrax port helps with placement, but the deep bass still wants a large room, and the high-frequency and presence controls on the rear let you trim the balance to the room. Connect the McIntosh CS7500 to the MC1502 by its balanced outputs, and set the CS7500 up on the network, ideally wired, for streaming. For vinyl, connect the Rega Planar 10 to the CS7500’s phono input, set the stage to moving-coil for the Apheta 3, adjust the gain to taste and fit the earth lead to the ground terminal.
