The Ruark Talisman-R brings one of the company’s most important loudspeaker designs into a new generation. Inspired by the original Talisman introduced in 1990, the new model preserves its slim proportions and distinctive character while introducing completely updated drivers, cabinet engineering and crossover technology.

Designed as a high-quality two-way floorstander, Talisman-R focuses on natural tonal balance, convincing scale and an open stereo presentation rather than exaggerated effects. Its elegant proportions also allow it to deliver genuine full-range performance without dominating the listening room, making it equally suited to dedicated Hi-Fi systems and carefully considered living spaces.

Natural Sound From Carefully Matched Drivers

A custom woofer and silk dome tweeter deliver clarity, weight and effortless musical detail.

Talisman-R uses a Ruark-developed 165mm NS+ long-throw bass/midrange driver with a treated natural-fibre cone. Its 35mm two-layer copper voice coil and powerful motor system are designed to combine responsive midrange reproduction with controlled low-frequency output, helping the speaker reach a typical in-room response down to 40Hz.

High frequencies are handled by a 27mm silk dome tweeter with a neodymium motor. The soft-dome design complements the natural-fibre woofer with a smooth, open character, allowing vocals, acoustic instruments and fine spatial detail to remain clear without becoming overly forward.

The two drivers are integrated through a carefully optimised second-order crossover using premium film capacitors, low-loss inductors and quality resistors, with particular attention paid to phase behaviour and clean signal transfer.

A Cabinet Engineered for Clarity

Advanced vibration control helps the drivers perform without unwanted colouration.

The enclosure plays a major role in Talisman-R’s performance. Ruark’s decoupled baffle system mounts the front panel through elastomer bushes and additional damping layers, helping prevent mechanical energy from the drive units passing directly into the main cabinet.

Internal bracing further increases rigidity, while compound acoustic wadding absorbs energy across a broad frequency range and helps control standing waves inside the enclosure. Together, these measures reduce cabinet resonance and allow more of the detail in the recording to emerge without being masked by unwanted vibration.

A tuned bass-reflex system with a dual-flared port extends low-frequency performance while controlling airflow, giving bass greater depth and definition without sacrificing the speaker’s slim proportions.

Designed for Real Hi-Fi Systems

Flexible amplifier matching and connectivity make Talisman-R easy to integrate.

With 87dB sensitivity, a nominal impedance of 6 ohms and recommended amplifier power between 50 and 250 watts, Talisman-R can partner with a wide range of high-quality integrated and power amplifiers. Dual gold-plated binding posts support both single-wire and bi-wire configurations, with compatibility for banana plugs, spades or bare cable.

Its combination of controlled bass, natural midrange and spacious imaging makes the speaker suitable for everything from intimate acoustic recordings to large-scale orchestral and electronic music, while retaining the balance and coherence expected from a serious two-channel system.

Talisman-R retains the distinctive visual philosophy that made the original model stand apart from conventional rectangular loudspeakers. Its carefully proportioned cabinet and angled detailing give the speaker a lighter visual presence despite its floorstanding format.

A solid-steel plinth adds mass at the base and lowers the centre of gravity for improved stability. Adjustable rubber feet and carpet spikes are supplied, allowing secure placement across different floor types while giving the speaker its subtle floating appearance.

The result is a loudspeaker designed with equal consideration for sound, engineering and the space in which it will be enjoyed.
